There is not enough space here for us to express our deep love and admiration for Mr. Didier Delesalle . Our favourite producer Shazz (Didier Delesalle) is back with a brand new studio album. We have a deep affection for this highly literate and sensitive producer, his well-crafted songs are saved by his sincerity, and by Michael Robinson’s insanely sensuous vocal delivery. This is his  best set of songs, each better than the last. He never fails to amaze us .Heritage is his sixth studio album and our most favourite.

Mike Monday recently stated us : ”At every point of the process or writing songs I tried to revisit how I write and think about music, which is probably why its ended up sounding so different. This is incredibly exciting for me as I think I’ve found a way of writing music which has the potential to be truly unique and original. Unfortunately in order to this, the other thing that does stand out in my mind is the hard work, because the process I went through in order to write some of it was particularly tortuous and long winded.” Do you feel your song writing skills have changed during the years? If so ,in what ways ?

Of course, they are some changes, I’m getting old you know  and when you’re getting older you go close to what you really are, you become more and more true to you, so true to your audience . For me, everything is about sensibility and about being honest. Actually it’s about love and honesty, my fans gave me so much love and supports since thoses 15 years so I have to be honest with them.

Rufus Wainwright stated in one of his press conferance : ”I always had a lot of very famous fans, you know wheter it is him or Michael Stipe or the other day …like Larry Cohen like these people who have been very very supportive of me.I am really singing for other musicians,I really am. ”Not that I dont want to sing for other people ” that not against for people or anything but I do try to sign for people who understand music.”Did you have the same or similar toughts while writing your new album.

Actually no, but I can understand what Rufus said. He’s a singer and I’m not. I’m more a producer ,I like to create atmosphere and good songs ,songs that can touch most of the people, from the real musician to the mainstream listener, that’s the power of music, to be listened by every kind of people and everywhere in the world.

Tell us a little bit about the preparation of the album, how long did it take you to sit around a table and start to work on the tracks ? Do you sit at home and write songs and then take them into the studio, or do you work when you’re in there?

I’m always working, I always try new thing but it’s quite easy for me because I have my studio recording at home.

What was the most challenging thing you faced during the recording of your new album ?

Recording a song is not the most difficult thing. The hardest thing was to find a new label company, a new home which will be able to understand my works. It was a hard time really, while I was making this album  I was not even sure if it will get a release. I was so lucky to meet PSCHENT during the last part of the recording of HERITAGE, they gave me the last impulsion and the strength I need to finish this project.

It’s very different from a major company, with PSCHENT, it’s really a team work and I feel blessed to found thoses guys on my path. So even if it was sometimes very hard to work and don’t know where you go, I will remember it as a very good and peaceful experience.

Where does a song start when you’re writing things together with Michael Robinson? Do you start with beat? chords? How much did the songs begin to change when you started working together. Did you come to the table with completed songs?

As I said before, I’m always working in my studio, I prepare instrumental versions that I submit them to Michael Robinson, then he can find the right vocals on it with his own groove and sensibility. He also work s on all the chorus parts. I want him to feel very comfortable , I try to give him the opportunity to express himself on my music. It was a very exciting experience to share an album with a singer and Michael is so talented.

Will there be any more projects together?

I hope so, I always loves to work with differents peoples on my previous albums , it’s very sane actually, because sometimes you can be so locked in your own feelings , bringing someone new in the project can be very interesting because it can take the song to a different level. I really like Timbaland works for that, his productions are always very recognizable but he’s always dedicated to the artist he works with. I ‘m sure i’m gonna meet a lot of talented artists to fit the Shazz sound in the next years.

When you start a track,do you often have several different concepts of producing it ?

I am a really old school guy  even in the way of producing my tracks, I always start by the keys, which is for me the heart of the track, then the bass which will give the groove of the track and then if i’m happy with that, I asked my guys (Alexandre Destrez or Thomas or Michael) to bring their touch on it. I made music in a very old school way, the electronic elements are always the last to come.

When you guys finally set to fleshing out the song ideas, what did that look like? Did you develop a sort of format?

Not at all, we’re not creating songs together, I made the first step then Michael brings his energy and skills on it. Were not a band you know, Michael is my voice, he always finds  the right lyrics and a perfect way to sing them so I let him work alone .

How do you want Heritage to be remembered as ?

Funny question actually, the relase is not that old  but even if I try to make intemporel albums, it’s still electronic music and it will be very pretentious to say that electronic albums can cross time easily like a pop album.Unfortunately it’s not like that.I want Heritage to be remembered as a new stage in my artistic development.I always like the idea of producing concept albums .

I really like all the tracks but two of them stands out for me Mirage and Gonna Make you Happy. How did these tracks came about ?

It’s quite funny, because for those tracks, I had the melodies in my mind since a long time, and I had some parts of the words too, the lyrics were running through out my head and one day I wrote them down…it was done in a really old school way : )

Looking back, was it very surprising to see how the songs developed from the initial ideas that you had been talking about?

Not that much, because when I write a song , I choose the right featuring on it. I know exactly how its gonna look like. I trust so much on all the artists that are involved in that album. I worked with them since the begining of my career, they know me so well  as much as I know them, so we are all moving in the same direction. So it was not suprising how the songs developed but it stills remain exciting to work with people I trust and admire.

Looking at the album in retrospect what influences, musical or otherwise do you hear in the album?

The idea of the album comes from old tracks of Blues and Gospel that came out the begining of the century. I always have been a fan of depressive country music , mellow Pop or Blues songs and you can hear thoses influences on the album. On the more happly side, you can find Chicago house and a small twist of Pop music :-)

Were there other songs that were written for the Heritage that didn’t make the album?

There are some unreleased tracks that are going to  be released..or not, I don’t know yet. I’m working on a new track a little bit more electronic and symphonic too which will be added to the re-issue of HERITAGE, but no revolution here, it will be the same sensibility than the rest of the album because HERITAGE is really like I wanted it to be.

What will be the first single off of the album ? Who ll be remixing it ?

There are gonna be several singles from HERITAGE, Mirage, Gonna make you happy , Last Train and Sit Down too.And of course there will be a bunch of remixes. Gonna make you happy will have remixes from SunlightSquare (the musicians of Amy Winehouse), Jean Marie K from RADIO FG, Michael Kaiser and BALAZKO , Last Train will have exclusive remixes by the king Ashley Beedle, I’m very excited about that.

Tell us about your plans for 2010?

I’m working on differents projets at the moment but it’s too soon to talk about it now, my present is totally dedicated to HERITAGE :-)
