Fan Death
Yorum yap
Everyone is talking about them ! Meet the Fan Death. The hype surrounding Fan Death (Dandilion Wind Opaine, a.k.a. Dandi Wind, and Marta Jaciubek-McKeever) has taken internet by storm .These Canadian girls are on every blog. Why they shouldnt be ? They make fantastic music.Their videos are outstanding .Their youtube views reached 250.000 and they still haven’t released an album yet !
Your youtube video views has reached 250.000 Are you suprised with the sucess since you have only reased a single and an EP ?
Actually we’ve only released 2 singles – our EP “A Coin For The Well” has only come out as of this week. But yes we are pleased to have had a lot of views of our two main videos as they took a lot of time and work – they are very much DIY labors of love!
Can you please tell us about your new album ‘’Womb of May’’? Will it be a dance album or more diverse than that ?
The album is actually called “Womb Of Dreams” and it’s very diverse with the only binding sound being that most songs have live strings/horns on them. But there are ballads, some kind of insdustrial/NDW elements in addition to nods to genres like freestyle & new jack swing - I think people will be surprised.
Which artists or groups you think ,they influenced your sound ?
So many – but principally Fan Death is a fusion of dance and folk influences. On the dance side, melancholic synthpop like Depeche Mode, New Order,Alphaville etc. and then bizarre folk stuff like Comus, Current 93,Bobby Beausoleil. Also lots of soundtracks such as Philip Glass,Goblin, Ennio Morricone.
What was the most challenging thing you faced during the recording of your new album ?
Probably lack of money – it was a big struggle to get the funds to do the live instrument recordings so we had to keep stopping and starting. If it wasn’t for that setback we could have put out a Fan Death album 14 months ago, butin a way it’s a good thing as some more great songs came out of the time we had to spend waiting to finish things up.

Where does a song start when you’re writing things together? Do you start with beat? chords? How much did the songs begin to change when you started working together. Did you come to the table with completed songs?
I don’t know because it varies, but songs usually start with some kind of theme in mind; either lyrically or in the mood we’re trying to convey. The songs are nearly always totally structured by the time we are in the studio and usually incorporate the same synth parts as in the demos.
Can you please tell us your plans for 2010?
Touring a lot and making more videos – also i plan on finishing the third album for my other band DANDI WIND because i put it aside to finish this Fan Death album. We’d like to come to Turkey of course too – any promoters can get in touch with our EU agent!!!
